Want to be Happy, Go Ballooning

A recently published scientific study conducted by San Francisco State University has proved that people are happier and live longer when they spend money on life experiences rather than material things.

It turns out that there is actually some truth in the statement, “Collect Moments, Not Things”. The Study concluded that people buy material things, believing it will bring them happiness. However, when it comes improving one’s well-being, experiences such as a hot air balloon flight in Launceston Tasmania are far more beneficial.

Much of the research dedicated to the topic of experiences versus - material things offer unique insights as to why people should be choosing one over the other. Many studies show that material purchases don’t provide long lasting pleasure because we soon grow accustomed to them and the novelty and excitement wears off quickly.

For example, we all know how disappointing is it when a better version of what we just bought is released just after we’ve bought it. Often the anticipation and build up to the purchase is more exciting than the object itself. The moment we complete the purchase the thrill is over and we’re left unfulfilled, again.

So choose and experience over anything else. It doesn’t have to be dramatic or flashy It doesn’t even have to be expensive to be beneficial. No need to take a month off or travel to far away places. Research shows that it can be small or short and still have a very positive affect on a person’s well-being. Most importantly the research also shows that when we share experiences the effects are amplified, we feel more connected we feel better about ourselves – something that does not happen with a material object.

So, the next time you want to spend money ask yourself if you will still enjoy the purchase in a month’s time and will you be better off for it. Then think if it would be a better use of your money would be to take your spouse for a hot air balloon ride over the Tasmanian countryside instead.

This way you can build long lasting memories and an emotional connection that will last a lifetime.

This way you will find happiness
