A hot air balloon flight is a fantastic experience. In this blog we answer the 7 most frequently asked questions.

Why so early in the morning?

It’s when conditions are at their best for flying.The winds are lightest at dawn, and we need settled conditions to operate a balloon safely. Later in the day when the temperatures heat up, it gets a windy and wobbly and thing never end up well.

How high do hot air balloons fly?

Airport airspace usually dictates how high we can fly. In the Hawkesbury we can fly up to 4000ft but the best stuff happens down real low drifting above the trees and water. We mix every flight up with a bit of both.

I have a fear of heights. Will I be scared ?

Probably yes before you get into the basket. But all those worries and fears will quickly fall away within a few minutes of take off when you realise it is nothing like you expected. Ballooning is a smooth, gentle and tranquil experience. You’ll love it.

How do you steer a hot air balloon?

Not just anyone will be piloting your balloon. We will give you a fully licensed and experienced pilot. One know know his stuff. He will use the different current of air as he climbs and descends to steer the balloon to his preferred destination. Local knowledge plays a great part in his ability to hit his target.

What can I bring with me?

Only essential items are allowed onboard as space is limited. Passengers are welcome to leave any bags & backpacks in our vehicles which you can collect after the flight. It’s a good idea to bring along phones and cameras. But they are carried at your own risk.

What should I wear?

Wear outdoor clothing and shoes. A hat is a great idea, it is really hot under the burnet and some sunglasses if the Sun is shining. You can get grubby when you’re out about ballooning so don’t wear your good clothes.

Is hot air ballooning governed by any regulations?

Yes, the Civil Aviation Safety Authority CASA, the same guys that keep an eye Qantas keep an eye on us. The balloons are registered aircraft and your Pilot is fully licensed.
